Alison Johns PGA professional at woodhall spa, the national golf centre, who lives
in Folkingham, represented team Great Britain for the world transplant games in Argentina
She won a gold medal in the individual golf event and a bronze medal in the team event. She said it was an amazing experience, over 900 transplant athletes from 44 countries took part in different sports. Team Great Britain won the most medals, 150 gold medals and 248 medals in total.
The world transplant games, supported by the international Olympic committee, represents the largest organ donor awareness event in the world. Across the UK there are 10,000 people in need of a transplant, every day three people die waiting for a transplant. Yet across the UK 1 in 3 adults haven't considered organ donation or decided whether they want to be an organ donor.
Alison had her liver transplant in 2009, after getting ill where a virus attacked her liver, within 6 weeks of being ill she had a life saving liver transplant, without her donor she would not be here. So she would like everyone to consider being registered on the donor register.
